These various types of tripod heads provide different control mechanisms & have distinct applications.

Sachtler FSB8T Fluid Head

  • The best fluid head I have used and the best one time investment that keeps returning. It has worked flawlessly from -20° to 40° Celsius temperatures.

  • What can I say… there is enough and more information available on Sachtler products.

ProMediaGear GKJr. Katana Junior

  • My light weight solution for smooth panning and tilting especially with the GroundPod.

  • Here’s what Bryan Carnathan has to say about it.

RRS BH-55 Lever Release Panning Head

  • Probably the best ball head out there.

  • Read about it here.

Manfrotto MHXPRO-3W Head

  • Another one of my earliest purchases. Still works well after so many years but because of its shape I’ve had it stuck on branches and shrubs when walking through the thick brush.

  • I found a good review here.

RRS Monopod Head MH-2 with Indexed Lever Clamp

Manfrotto 496RC2 Ball Head

  • My first ball head. Worked well in its heyday and then as the loads increased it started to struggle and slip its grip.

  • A good review.

Syrp Ball Head

  • This light weight ball head is designed to work with the Genie Motion Control Time-Lapse system and it is just the right weight to load capacity for the Sy Watcher Star Adventurer. It can hold up to 12 kgs and weighs less than 350 grams.

  • Reviewed here as an accessory to the Syrp Genie.

Acratech Large Leveling Base

  • Probably the sturdiest base I have used for leveling out the horizon.

  • A good review here.
