The Yellow-vented Flowerpecker is a tiny bird with a short, sharp bill and demonic red eyes. The namesake yellow vent is not as readily apparent as the golden-olive upperparts and the long black streaks on its snow-white breast and belly. Inhabits lowland and foothill forests, gardens, and edges. Like many other flowerpeckers, most readily found hanging around mistletoe.

It is a snappy-looking bird whose male is black with a white throat and yellow belly. Two black patches on either side of the chest give him a “vested” appearance. The female is soft brown above with a darker tail and wingtips, and a pale-yellow belly which blends gradually into the breast. They are found from the lower foothills up into montane areas, where it inhabits open areas with tall growth, particularly edges and clearings.

The White-bellied Redstart from the family Muscicapidae is found in Bhutan, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand & Vietnam, where its natural habitat is temperate forests. It is a dark, medium-sized songbird with a long orange-sided tail, totally unlike any other redstart. It breeds in shrubby montane areas, particularly in the transition zone between forest and more open habitats and winters in similarly dense habitat at lower elevations.

The White-tailed Robin (Myiomela leucura) is a stately ground-dwelling Old World flycatcher of dense mid- to upper-elevation broadleaf and mixed forests, particularly in areas with bamboo. The male is a striking rich blue with brighter patches on crown and wings, while the female is brown overall with white throat and belly. Both sexes have large white patches on sides of tail that flash brightly in the gloom of the forest when fanned. When the white tail patch is not visible, ground-dwelling habits and horizontal posture distinguish male from the similar Large Niltava. Their song is beautiful, a short series of ringing silvery whistles, usually rising. Most common call is a high thin “tzin.”
