Grey Francolin
The Grey Francolin is a species of francolin found in the plains & drier parts of the Indian subcontinent and Iran. This species was formerly also called the grey partridge, not to be confused with the European grey partridge. They are mainly ground-living birds and are found in open cultivated lands as well as scrub forest and their local name of teetar is based on their calls, a loud and repeated Ka-tee-tar...tee-tar which is produced by one or more birds. The term teetar can also refer to other partridges and quails. During the breeding season calling males attract challengers, and decoys were used to trap these birds especially for fighting.

Indian Roller
The Indian Roller is a brightly coloured bird with various shades of blue on the wings, tails, & belly that are more prominent in flight. There are longitudinal white streaks on the throat and breast. They are generally silent, but vocal in the breeding season with harsh calls. Preferring open areas, including agricultural landscapes, they sit on exposed perches including electric wires, occasionally pumping their tail slowly.

Jungle Bush Quail
A small, plump terrestrial bird, roughly spherical in shape identified by its rusty throat & rusty-and-white eyebrow. The males have barred underparts while females have uniform pinkish cinnamon underparts. They’re found in dry stony scrub jungles and dry grasslands & are generally secretive until flushed when it suddenly bursts into flight, flying with weak whirring wingbeats low over the ground before quickly dropping into cover.

Black-headed Ibis
The Near Threatened black-headed ibis (Threskiornis melanocephalus), also known as the Oriental white ibis, Indian white ibis, and black-necked ibis, is a species of wading bird of the ibis family Threskiornithidae which breeds in the South and Southeast Asia from India to the west and as far east as Japan. It is the only native ibis species in its range that has an overall white plumage with a black neck and head. The down-curved beak and legs are also black. Though often referred to as a wetland species, the black-headed ibis forages in a range of natural and man-made habitats. This species of ibis nests only during the rainy season. The photos I have shared are all the way from 2011 when I first ventured into photographing birds.

Olive-backed Pipit
The Olive-backed is a small pipit with a greenish-brown back and heavily streaked breast & belly that is often seen in loose flocks or in pairs. Note the distinctive facial pattern: broad pale lines surrounding the eye and a dark ear patch. It prefers more forested areas than other pipits, though will also forage in fields and scrubby edges.

White-gorgeted Flycatcher
The White-gorgeted is a tiny brown flycatcher with a triangular white bib bordered with black. It has a gray head, a frosty white brow, and ruddy wings & tail which are not as eye-catching as the throat patch, but just as distinctive. It is unobtrusive & retiring, generally keeping to the dense lower levels of foothill forests. It frequently forages in inaccessible gorges and thick stream side vegetation. Usually seen singly, occasionally in pairs.

Rufous-browed Flycatcher
The rufous-browed flycatcher is a unique-looking flycatcher with a gleamingly clean white throat & a strong rusty orange tinge to the brow and forehead. There is an overlap with the closely related White-gorgeted Flycatcher but it lacks that species’s gray face & black border to the white throat patch. It inhabits foothill and montane forests, where it forages close to the ground in lower vegetation.

Black-throated Babbler
The Old World Babblers are a family of passerine birds diverse in size and coloration, characterised by soft fluffy plumage. These are birds of tropical areas, with the greatest variety in Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent. This group is among those Old World bird families with the highest number of species still being discovered.
The near threatened Black-throated Babbler (Stachyris nigricollis) is a species of bird in the Timaliidae family. It is found in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical swamps. It is threatened by habitat loss.
