Pied Kingfisher
#Kingfishers are a family of small to medium-sized, brightly coloured birds in the order #Coraciiformes. They have a cosmopolitan distribution, with most species found in the tropical regions of Africa, Asia, and Oceania. The family contains 114 species and is divided into three subfamilies and 19 genera. I have been able to photograph a few of these across Asia Pacific with some coming quite easily and some coming after waiting for hours, damp and cold but worth every bit the wait. Featured here is the boldly marked Pied Kingfisher.

Osprey
The Osprey is a large, mostly white raptor that cruises over lakes, rivers, and coastal waterways in search of fish. The are impressively widespread: found on every continent except Antarctica. They are mostly white headed with white underparts and a dark brown back. In flight, they hold their wings with a kink in the wrist (shaped like an "M"). Stick nests are conspicuous on top of channel markers, utility poles and high platforms near water. Often seen plunging feet-first into water from high in the air to grab fish.
This sequence was documented at the Bhigwan Bird Sanctuary.

White-browed Fulvetta
The white-browed fulvetta is a bird species in the family Sylviidae. It is a chunky fulvetta of scrubby, stunted subalpine forests. Striking and unmistakable, with orange-suffused wings, a dark crown, and a bright white throat and brow. It moves through low vegetation in large flocks, sometimes with other species.
Ranging across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, it is endemic to Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Vietnam. Its natural habitat is temperate forests.

Black-naped Monarch
The black-naped monarch or black-naped blue flycatcher (Hypothymis azurea) is a slim and agile passerine bird belonging to the family of monarch flycatchers found in southern and south-eastern Asia. They are sexually dimorphic, with the male having a distinctive black patch on the back of the head and a narrow black half collar ("necklace"), while the female is duller with olive brown wings and lacking the black markings on the head. They have a call that is similar to that of the Asian paradise flycatcher, and in tropical forest habitats, pairs may join mixed-species foraging flocks. Populations differ slightly in plumage colour and sizes.

Verditer Flycatcher
The Verditer Flycatcher is a beautifully vivid turquoise-blue flycatcher. The adult male has dark lores while the juvenile is duller, with noticeably grayer underparts. It sits upright on exposed perches when found in lowland and hill forests and forest edges. But these birds do not get their dramatic plumage colour from pigments; instead, this is a structural colour that results from the feather scattering light such that it appears blue.

Blue-capped Rock Thrush
The brightly coloured male Blue-capped Rock Thrush is unmistakable with his black mask, sky-blue head, and orange rump and underparts. The female is not as striking and is a gray-brown with scaled underparts and faint white eye crescents very similar to the larger female Chestnut-bellied Rock-Thrush, but lacking the prominent white “ear crescents”. It has less densely-patterned underparts, and averages paler overall. It breeds in hilly and montane areas, particularly open dry forests and rocky slopes with scattered trees. Descends in the winter favouring secondary forests and plantations. The Blue-capped forages in trees and on the ground, often searching for prey from snags or telephone wires. It usually moves with mixed-species flocks in the winter.

Mottled Wood Owl
The Mottled Wood Owl is a medium-sized patchy-looking owl with dark eyes. It has exquisite densely-marked orange-and-gray coloration and typically gives single hoots, but also gives an odd, mellow tremolo vocalisation in the breeding season. It is a lowland species, favouring groves and clusters of trees in open plains and on the edges of cultivated areas.

Black Redstart
The black redstart is a small passerine bird in the genus Phoenicurus. Like its relatives, it was formerly classed as a member of the thrush family, but is now known to be an Old World Flycatcher. Other common names are Tithy's redstart, blackstart and black redtail.
