Asian Forest Tortoise

The Critically Endangered Asian Forest Tortoise (Manouria emys) is the largest mainland Asian tortoise, residing in dense, humid forests like Thailand’s Kaeng Krachan NP. Recognizable by its massive, dark carapace and unique thigh spurs, this ancient reptile exhibits rare maternal instincts by building and defending leaf-litter nests. However, rising deforestation and habitat loss severely threaten its survival.
