Finding and photographing the Streaked Weaver (Ploceus manyar) is an exercise in exploring vibrant wetland ecosystems. Often overshadowed by the more common Baya Weaver, the Streaked Weaver is a resident species specialized in reedy habitats near water bodies. I found and photographed these weavers near the banks of the Godavari River. The massive Sri Ram Sagar Reservoir serves as a critical habitat for various bird species, especially during the monsoon and winter months.

Continuing from last week, today is about photographing Star Trails at Nirmal. I explored some dark sky sites at Nirmal, in collaboration with HyTiCos, which could be leveraged for star gazing and astro photography. This location has spectacular naked eye visibility of some of the major constellations and is a prime location for Star Trails photography.

In the last week of February, in collaboration with HyTiCos, I had the opportunity to explore some areas in Telangana which could be leveraged as dark skies for star gazing and astro photography. This is a location in the district of Nirmal which has spectacular naked eye visibility of some of the major constellations and star clusters as you can see in this timelapse.

At 18 minutes past midnight we also saw and photographed a brilliant meteor which lit up the sky. In total 9 separate meteors were captured throughout the night which I have composited into a single image with the Milky Way. Read more in the Blog.

The seventh in the Bulbul series is the white-browed bulbul (Pycnonotus luteolus) a member of the bulbul family of passerine birds, a resident breeder in Sri Lanka and peninsular India. Largely olive coloured above with whitish underparts, it has a pale supercilium and a yellow vent. They are found in dense scrub habitats, where they skulk within vegetation and can be difficult to see although their loud and distinct burst of calls is distinctive.
