Indian Pied Myna/ Asian Pied Starling
From deep within the Amrabad Reserve, the Nallamala Hills rise in the distance like ancient, slumbering giants. A flash of stark black and white cuts through the dry deciduous canopy. It wasn't the majestic stride of a Bengal tiger, nor the cautious leap of a chital. Instead, it was a sharp, dapper bird that landed gracefully on a little mound of earth. With its crisp plumage resembling a finely tailored evening suit, the Indian Pied Myna (Gracupica contra) made its presence known through a sudden burst of liquid, musical whistles.

Magnificent Emperor Dragonfly/ Blue Darner
The Magnificent Emperor Dragonfly (Anax immaculatifrons), characterized by its vivid green thorax and sapphire-blue abdomen, is a significant apex insect predator thriving in the protected forest streams of Telangana. These 80–95 mm dragonflies, which rely on shaded, perennial aquatic environments, serve as crucial bio-indicators whose presence signals a healthy ecosystem now threatened by habitat degradation.

White-browed Laughingthrush
The early morning mist hung heavy over the dense canopy of Chiang Mai’s evergreen rainforests, draping the ancient trees in a silver shroud. The forest floor was alive with the rustle of leaves, but nothing was visible through the thick green wall of ferns and bamboo thickets. Suddenly, a chaotic burst of sound shattered the silence—a chorus of raucous cackles, rhythmic whistles, and metallic twangs that echoed through the ravine. It was the unmistakable "laugh" of the forest’s most elusive troupe.

Kalij Pheasant
To encounter the Kalij Pheasant in the wild is to step into a complex evolutionary narrative that stretches across the vast mountain systems of South and Southeast Asia. From the rugged foothills of the Indian Himalayas to the limestone karsts of Indochina, the Kalij Pheasant serves as an ecological anchor, bridging the gap between the high-altitude forests of the north and the tropical, humid jungles of the south.

Brown Fish Owl
The Brown Fish Owl (Ketupa zeylonensis) is a typical owl from the family Strigidae. A huge bulky brown owl with a finely streaked breast, a plain face, and bright yellow eyes. Also note its dirty white “bib” and the heavy brow that gives it a moody demeanor. It inhabits waterside wooded areas from lowlands up into the mountains, feeding by dropping down into and wading around in creeks, lakes, and pools. Often gives deep echoing hoots, as well as various shrieks and higher-pitched hoots.

Pied Triller
For a bird photographer in Singapore, the handsome Pied Triller (Lalage nigra) is a masterclass in subtlety. It doesn’t possess the iridescent flash of a sunbird or the raucous personality of a kingfisher. Instead, it offers a clean, architectural beauty—a study in grayscale that blends seamlessly into the dappled light of the island’s garden canopies. Finding one requires a "soft eye": looking not for color, but for a specific, rhythmic movement against the leaves.
